Cycling for Wapiyapi was started in 2010 by former camp staff member and former board member Anna Hansen. The ride, which was originally the Wapiyapi Classic, has become a favorite summer weekend in Aspen. Its support is key in raising funds for Camp Wapiyapi.
The ride features Lance Armstrong and George Hincapie and the first half of the bike ride accommodates all biking levels. The ride starts in town and continues to Ashcroft followed by a more challenging (but beautiful) climb to the Maroon Bells.
Later that evening guests enjoy cocktails and a beautiful dinner with a lively auction at the private home of Lance Armstrong and Anna Hansen. Guests come from all over the world to participate.
Our 2016 event, held on July 30, was very successful, and we are already looking forward to next year’s ride. We will announce the date for the 2017 Cycling for Wapiyapi in the springtime. If you are on our email list, you will be among the first to know.
